March 2nd is going to be a busy day at DelTech
Delaware Technical College’s Wilmington Campus will be hosting a career development event called Career U.
The day starts bright and early at 7:30am with a session of 1 Million Cups. If you’re not familiar, 1 Million Cups is a national organization that hosts small coffee gatherings that are kind of like support groups for entrepreneurs. A business owner makes a presentation, presents a problem he or she is experiencing, and asks the audience for advice.
After a short break, Career U, will officially kick off at 9am. John Himics (that’s me!), local entrepreneur and partner of First Ascent Design, will give a talk about opportunity.
There is a lot of hidden opportunity in Delaware, particularly in Wilmington. I will be sharing a few anecdotes about my experiences as an entrepreneur, about the Wilmington business community, and advice on how to really pursue those opportunities.
Calling Wilmington Area Business Owners!
When I was in middle school, the only careers I knew about were fire fighter, policeman, doctor, and computer guy (that was my dad). When I was in high school and college, I learned about a few more career options but still didn’t truly understand that people can make their own way in life. I’m willing to bet the students are very similar. What you do is unique and unknown to these students. Please consider attending Career U, and making yourself available to the DelTech students. They will have questions, and they will appreciate seeing the opportunities you’ve created for yourselves.
Where do I go? And where do I park?
The address is 300 N. Orange Street, Wilmington DE 19801. Visitors should park in the coned spaces in our parking lot (in front of the parking garage) directly across from our main entrance. The entrance to the lot is on Orange between 3rd and 4th streets. The presentations will be in the Southeast Building’s Conference Center (Public Safety will direct people as they come in).
