Clutch Tutor is an online tutoring service helping children ages 4 to 14 strengthen their reading and math skills through one-on-one virtual sessions. Founded by an experienced educator and parent, the program works closely with families to build strong academic foundations while helping students grow in confidence and independence.
Over several years, Clutch Tutor built a loyal client base and a strong reputation with parents. The only thing missing was a brand to match the high quality of their work. They came to us to design a custom logo and visual identity that captured the heart of their work: fun but grounded, supportive but knowledgeable, relaxed yet deeply experienced. The brand needed to feel welcoming to kids while earning the trust of parents.

Matching the Visuals to the Vision
Clutch Tutor had earned a great reputation with families, but their visual identity hadn’t caught up. Colors, fonts, and graphics shifted from platform to platform, and the logo felt generic rather than a custom mark designed for them. We set out to build a brand system rooted in the qualities Clutch Tutor values most: supportive mentorship, patience, adaptability, and encouragement. The identity needed to balance warmth with credibility. It had to feel playful enough for a seven-year-old, but knowledgeable and steady enough for a parent investing in their child’s education.
Bringing Character to
the Brand
We kicked off the design process by diving deep into Clutch Tutor’s story, audience, and goals. Through mood boards and early concepts, we explored how to connect with both parents and kids while making the virtual nature of the lessons instantly clear. The result was a custom panda mascot that anchors the brand, chosen because its calm and steady presence makes the brand feel approachable for students. To make the virtual model clear at a glance, we equipped the mascot with its own laptop and headphones. We designed the illustration to be friendly and expressive but avoided making it look overly childlike to ensure the brand still feels professional to parents.
We paired the new logo with a warm, inviting color palette to reinforce care and approachability, and chose bold, easy-to-read typography to signal clarity and expertise. Every element works together to communicate a brand that is experienced, empathetic, and invested in student growth. We distilled every detail into guidelines that give the Clutch Tutor team clear direction on how to use their new logo and brand assets.
A System That Works for Today and Tomorrow
With the brand identity and logo finalized, Clutch Tutor had everything they needed to roll out their refreshed look across all digital channels. The team now has a clear, unified toolkit they can rely on whether they are updating the website, posting on social media, or creating printed materials like stickers. Most importantly, the new identity finally reflects the experience families already know: patient guidance, clear communication, and learning that feels both supportive and empowering. As Clutch Tutor expands, the brand now has the structure and personality to grow alongside it.

From the first conversation, First Ascent made the logo process feel organized and intentional. They asked the right questions, explained their design decisions, and kept me involved at every step. The final logo reflects both professionalism and warmth, which was exactly what my brand needed. I walked away with branding that truly fits my business and supports future growth.
