MARY ANN’S LIST
Mary Ann’s List was inspired by the legacies of Mary Ann Sorden Stuart and Mary Ann Shadd Cary, two pioneers for women’s rights in Delaware who never had the right to vote but helped shape a path for those who followed. The organization set out to recruit, train, support, and elect pro-choice women to serve in government at every level. We partnered with them early on to create a digital platform and print materials that helped bring that mission to life.

Making Engagement
Easy and Impactful
Mary Ann’s List was created to help elect pro-choice Democratic women across Delaware and to advocate for reproductive justice, family support, education, sexual harassment prevention, and fair treatment in the workplace. They needed a website that was clear, engaging, and made it easy for people to take action. We designed a site with straightforward calls to nominate candidates, donate, volunteer, or sign up for updates, along with news and social links to keep supporters informed and connected.
To build momentum offline, we created a series of infographic-style posters that highlighted how few women held elected office in Delaware. In 2018, only four seats in the State Senate were held by women. That stat helped drive home the urgency of their mission and sparked real conversations during a critical election year.
Later that fall, Mary Ann’s List teamed up with EMILYs List to host the Pink Wave Rally in Newark, Delaware. Over a dozen Democratic female candidates, including U.S. Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester, came together to speak out on representation and reproductive rights. We developed a bold postcard and stickers for the rally that helped bring the campaign to life and make a lasting impression.
Powering a Movement for Representation
Mary Ann’s List may have closed operations in 2023, but its mission lives on. The website we built and materials we created became a launchpad for action, making it easy for supporters to donate, volunteer, and rally behind pro-choice women candidates across Delaware. Rooted in the legacy of two pioneering Mary Anns, this project helped push Delaware politics forward. We’re proud to have been part of it.
